Here are details of the base yarns that I use (though there may occasionally be others as well). All my yarns currently for sale are listed in my Folksy shop. If you would like a different base/colourway combination or a custom project please contact me.
Peaknaze Sock, 75% superwash wool, 25% nylon.
A beautiful yarn with a lovely lustre and feel. It would make a great pair of socks, but
would also make lovely shawls and scarves.
Peaknaze Moor is the iconic hill of the Longdendale Valley,
distinctive and noticeable as you approach from the West.
100g/430m approx - this amount should be enough for a pair of
socks, or a shawlette.
Sock / fingering / 4ply weight yarn - recommended needle size:
2mm - 3mm.
Although this yarn contains superwash wool and will go through
the washing machine without felting, I would still recommend hand washing for
best results. Dry flat.
Rhodeswood Sock, 100% Bluefaced Leicester wool
A gorgeous squidgy, bouncy yarn that would make beautifully
soft socks, shawls or mittens.
Rhodeswood Reservoir is the third in the chain of reservoirs in
the Longdendale Valley, and it is from here that water is sent through the
Mottram tunnel to Manchester.
100g/420m approx. – this amount should be enough for a pair of
socks a shawlette.
Sock / fingering / 4ply weight yarn - recommended needle size:
2.5mm – 3.5mm.
Hand wash, dry flat.
Rhodeswood DK, 100% Bluefaced Leicester wool
A soft but hard-wearing yarn that would make lovely warm hats,
jumpers or mittens.
Rhodeswood Reservoir is the third in the chain of reservoirs in
the Longdendale Valley, and it is from here that water is sent through the
Mottram tunnel to Manchester.
100g/240m approx. – this amount should be enough for a hat or
pair of mittens.
DK weight yarn - recommended needle size: 4mm.
Hand wash, dry flat.
Crowden Sock, 100% Shetland wool
A hard working yarn that is surprisingly soft and knits up with
excellent stitch definition. It would
make warm and woolly socks, gloves or a scarf.
Crowden is a small hamlet, known for having a Youth Hostel and
campsite, and for being where the Pennine Way crosses the Valley.
100g/440m approx. – this amount should be enough for a pair of
socks or gloves.
Sock / fingering / 4ply weight yarn - recommended needle size:
2.5mm – 3.5mm.
Hand wash, dry flat.
Etherow Sock, 100% Merino wool
A springy yarn that would make warm soft socks, shawls or
mittens.
The Etherow is the river that flows through Longdendale and on
into the Mersey. As the primary source
for the reservoirs, it is the main source of water for Manchester.
100g/420m approx. – this amount should be enough for a pair of
socks or a shawlette.

Etherow Sport, 100% Merino wool
A lovely plied yarn with a beautiful lustre and it feels great
to knit and gives excellent stitch definition.
It would make a warm hat or mittens.

100g/280m approx. – this amount should be enough for a hat or
pair of mittens.
A true sport weight yarn that can knit as a sock weight or
light DK – recommended needle size: 3mm – 4mm.
